How SafeASIN uses data (Trust & methods)
This page explains what our keyword library, regulation index, and scan results mean — and what they do not mean. It is for sellers who want to verify our methods, not a legal opinion.
1. What we detect
| Signal | Source | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Recall events | Public CPSC SaferProducts.gov + openFDA enforcement feeds (synced on a schedule) | A government-published recall that may relate to your brand or category — you should read the official notice. |
| Risk phrases | Our curated buyer-language keyword library matched by substring in listing title and (after a live scan) Amazon review text | A phrase in our library appears in the text — pattern detection only, not a violation finding. |
| CFR references | Human-reviewed links from specific phrases to rows in our regulation index (sourced from eCFR) | “This phrase is associated with this CFR entry in our library” — not “your product fails this test.” |
2. What we do not do
- We do not provide legal advice or a compliance certificate.
- We do not use AI to silently assign regulations to phrases in production.
- We do not raise overall risk level based on review phrases alone — Low / Medium / High today reflects recall matching, not comment severity.
- We do not guarantee that every relevant law or recall is in our index.
3. Keyword library
- Version (seed file): see releases in our open repository; category labels are suffocation, fall, choking, toxic, strangulation.
- Aliases capture how buyers write in reviews (e.g. “falls apart” → related canonical phrases).
- Updates ship with product releases; we expand aliases from real review smoke tests, not automated legal inference.
4. Regulation index
- Hundreds of US federal rows (CPSC / FDA / related) with official eCFR or agency URLs.
- Curated links exist only for high-priority phrases; others show “no regulation link in library yet” — intentionally better than a wrong link.
- We run automated checks to block known bad auto-links (e.g. bicycle helmet rules matched by the word “tip”).
5. Live Amazon scan
- Pulls a limited set of public listing fields and top local reviews via our data provider — not the full review corpus.
- Results are cached; re-scan compares to your previous saved report when you use Re-scan.
